This year saw us head back to the lake district, was just a one day walk this year, so we chose Buttermere and Red Pike. The Lake District is definitely somewhere I want to explore more of, as it is so different to the Yorkshire Dales, despite being relatively close, so Buttermere it was.
The plan was to walk around the lake, then up onto the fell, and across to take a few peaks in, the weather looked a bit dodgy, but we had waterproofs and warm clothes, along with escape routes, so off we went.
After a fairly steep first climb, it leveled out before the next big climb
We finally reached the top. At 755m, it’s not the highest, but was very steep in places, plus my fitness was at an all time low, so I found this quite a struggle
Of course there was cake!
and views!
We walked along the ridge to High Stile, and planned on going a bit further, however the sky was turning black and it looked like heavy rain, so we headed back down, completed the rest of the loop around Buttermere and headed off to find something to eat.
