2015 was another 1 day walk, and we decided to head to the Howgills, an area I had heard of, seen from a distance regularly but never been to.
We went during the week, which was odd as it was much quieter than I thought it would be. mind you, it was raining and unseasonably cold. We drove to Sedburgh, parked up, and set off, the idea being to ascend the Calf, via Cautley spout, then back to Sedburgh.
The walk itself followed the valley up, then turned up for the ascent, a lot was on single track roads, then paths across very very green fields
Got to make some new friends
and we got some blue sky!
as we turned left and started to climb, we saw the waterfall. It’s England’s highest above ground cascading waterfall, and given the amount of rain, was very impressive
We followed the stream up, visibility was very limited, and it certainly wasn’t a day for views. Eventually, we found the trig point
Then it was time to head down, it started to dry up a bit as we got to the lower levels, but was a very wet day, but this seems to be somewhat of a theme on these walks, and the point of them is to spend a bit of time together, have a bit of a challenge, and see some new places, so the weather isn’t too much of a big deal!
Again, another successful trip, another peak bagged, and a lot of laughs along the way. Can’t really complain! It would be nice if it was dry next year though!
