The other night, a colleague of mine mentioned someone had told her about a place called the Nandi Hills, about 60 kms  north of the city where the sunrise was meant to be spectacular, so a coin flip to decide if 3 hours sleeps was enough later, we booked at taxi for 5am.

The drive was about an hour and a half, but it was nice to see a quieter side of the city.  The blaring horns were subdued a little, however, the drivers take advantage of being able to go more than 20 mph so will speed along, then slam their brakes on just before a pothole.

We arrived at the place, on top of an enormous granite monolith standing almost 1500m above sea level (Banaglore its self is on a plateau around 1000m).  Sunrise was scheduled for 6:37am, we were on the viewing deck at 6:34am. Exactly 3 minutes later, this appeared, then steadily got higher and higher (as you’d expect with a sunrise)

IMG_20150226_064518Then it was up, we had a quick look around the park and temples but had to dash back to get the car home then get ready for work.

I’d had worse starts to mornings!
