Following on from the highest mountain in England, we chose the highest in Wales this year, but for an extra challenge, decided to do the more taxing route via Crib Goch.
We booked some accommodation just out of Llanberis and headed off to Wales. When we arrived, we got checked into the B&B, and headed out for a stroll around the area. We set off and found a nice path around the lake, and thought we’d see where it went. A lot of slate mining activity in this area and a beautiful town. We also saw the railway, and questioned why we’d opted to take a tough route up when we could have got the train! Managed to get a bit of height from the hillside, so got some good views. The last part of the walk was down a track, where some lovely secluded cottages were. On the way back, we spotted a sort of restaurant, which was a barn, a pizza oven and some benches, advertising Pizza and a beer for £5. That was dinner sorted for that night!
After a good breakfast, we packed up the car and headed for the start, the weather had dried up, but we weren’t expecting sunshine, the tops of the mountains were very cloudy.
We set off, and, although the climb wasn’t too bad, there was a lot of scrambling and climbing. I had one scary moment when my hand slipped off a hold, but I managed to keep held on and we got to the top via a sharp arête, and were greated with this view!
The seagull seemed to follow us around for the day, kept appearing at different points of the walk.
There was time for some silliness, there is a similar picture of my brother and me when we’re maybe 6 and 4, so we tried to recreate it
After getting to the top of Crib Goch, we walked on to the summit of Snowdon. That was a surreal experience, as a train suddenly appeared out of the fog, and all these people got off, in normal clothes, then piled into the cafe.
We waited for our turn to take a picture at the summit, then went for a cup of tea
Also had cake
then it was time to head down the Miner’s path and pyg path, to the bottom, where at least we could see something
It even warmed up enough for shorts
Then back to the car, and headed off home
